How is water affected by light, texture, and color? How can I create a visually appealing painting for the viewer playing with abstraction and realism? I experimented constantly with my own style by trying new brushstrokes, adding texture, and pushing colors so that they are bold and bright. In my painting, Salty Seaside, I tried four different types of brushstrokes including pallet knife, pallet knife with salt, expressive brushstrokes, and brushstrokes that create naturalism. This helped me learn how to create an apealing composition and use texture as a way to create a more interesting painting. The work that inspired the theme of this portfolio is my painting, Submerged in Curiosity. While I was painting it I was constantly challenged with connecting abstraction and realism. I loved painting extremely detailed, having bold– bright colors, and adding texture through the bubbles in the bottom right corner. Additionally, my painting Nice, France Sunrise was the first painting I used a pallet knife for which sparked my love to experiment with textures. My portfolio explores the connection between water and people at a closer look, the explorative visual techniques I used are the main focus. Through this portfolio I have learned I love realism but also pushing that by adding texture and abstract elements that ultimately create a real looking painting that also has fun texture and elements that make it more visually appealing.
